Welcome to BBC Xtra English. Today Kaz and Liliane talk about cash points.
The first cash point, ATM machine, or hole in the wall, was installed in a bank in North London 40 years ago.
There are now more than 1.6 million of them worldwide.
The cash point was invented by John Shepherd-Barron. He originally had the idea while he was relaxing in his bath.
He wanted a way in which he could get hold of his money anywhere in the world. He came up with the idea of something like a chocolate bar dispenser and went on to invent the 4 digit pin number.
In the future you may be able to get more than cash from a cash point.
You'll be able to download music, books or movies or print out photographs.
In fact Shepherd-Barron predicts that one day cash machines will become cashless.
We will have no need for cash; instead we'll just swipe our mobile phones at till points.
Do you think we will soon be living in a cashless society? Write to us in English!
هل تعتقد اننا قد نعيش فى مجتمع بدون نقود و اوراق مالية فى المستقبل القريب؟
